Sergeant Steve Owen was shot and killed after responding to a burglary in progress call.
Sergeant Owen responded to a burglary in progress in Lancaster, about 70 miles north of the City of Los Angeles. He was shot by the burglary suspect shortly after arriving on the scene. After shooting Sergeant Owen, the suspect attempted to steal Sergeant Owen’s patrol car and ram other responding units. He fled on foot when responding deputies fired at him.
The subject was apprehended after breaking into another home to hide from officers.
Sergeant Own had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 29 years and is survived by his wife and two children.
