Corrections Officer David Weaver succumbed to injuries sustained nine days earlier when he fell and struck his head at State Correctional Institute Graterford.
He was supervising inmates in the prison’s outdoor recreation yard when he fell backwards and struck his head on a concrete wall, causing a skull fracture. Officer Weaver was the only officer assigned to the recreation yard at the time. Inmates who witnessed the incident stated that Officer Weaver was attempting to avoid a football that had been thrown in the yard.
Officer Weaver was transported to Paoli Hospital where he remained until succumbing to his injuries.
Officer Weaver was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for 13 years. He is survived by his wife.
